Video on demand is a distribution system for video media where the users can access videos directly. With the top VOD providers having at least 150 million subscribers this is a constantly evolving and growing industry. There are several different platforms, and this can vary from being viewed publicly to only being able to be viewed by registered members when they are logged in.
Most platforms have a large ever-increasing library of content to watch Depending on the service option selected it can have a specific set of content or a large variety. Every day the number of subscribers andviewers continues to grow.

Different Types of VOD
There are three different types of VOD available:

SVOD or Subscription VOD
This is where the user subscribes and pays to be able to access the videos. This generally has less or even no advertising.

TVOD or Transactional VOD
This is where the user still pays but this time it is based on the amount of content they use. Depending on the service it can be a pay per view or purchase a program or by volume of content.

AVOD or Adevertising VOD
This is generally free for the users, but it does come with ads and is generally paid for by the Advertisers. This type of VOD is less common than the other two.

There are limited problems with the quality of some of the content on streaming services. As most viewers will either watch on smart phones or computers the screen resolution can be ok but often much smaller than you would prefer and sound can often be an issue. Which will make all the work that has gone into the production of a show or movie not come through as clear. Many TV manufacturers have realised theincrease in demand for VOD compatible TV’s and have started creating them. Which is a clear indication that this is the way of the future.

The introduction of VOD has decreased the amount of piracy around the world. Most services allow viewers to toggle to their chosen language making it easier for people to watch. Many studios these days have started exclusively making content for various VOD platforms. Which is a strong indication that the world is moving towards VOD. With ever evolving technology from VHS to DVD to Blu-ray to VOD you certainly want to keep up with the changes. If you want to keep your clients engaged, you need to make sure you are on top of these evolutions.

VOD is becoming more and more popular all the time and with consumers constantly in need of easier ways to consume content. Not only are consumers in need of this but many businesses are now implementing VOD for various reasons. With other ways of consuming content phasing out VOD is the way of the now. With the increased demand from the consumer it makes sense for any production companies to keep up.
